The Octagonal Cottager (The Cottager) is the original Iron Embers fire pit and comes loaded with features to enhance your fireside experience. The octagonal design offers broad side faces, perfect for custom text and logo personalizations.

The rod rings are unique to The Cottager series and can be used for cooking with cast iron pans or as a footrest while the fire burns. Frequently asked questions

If you have a plate grill BBQ made from oiled carbon steel, it will need to be treated like a cast iron pan. This means regular oiling after use, seasoning, and storing inside, or it could begin to develop surface rust. If it does, don’t worry, you can brush the surface, re-oil, and start grilling again.

Not strictly, but it does help. The fire grate raises your logs up from the floor of the fire pit for better airflow, allowing oxygen to fuel the fire for a cleaner burn.

Yes. All spark screens come with our 10-year guarantee against rust-through and burn-through. The mesh in the screen is made from 304 stainless steel and stands up to the heat.

All orders are available for free pickup from our Guelph, ON location. If that is too far, we package your order in a box or on a pallet (for larger units) and ship it right to your door. The driver will call ahead to schedule a delivery window and place the package directly on your driveway. Be sure to inspect the package before the driver leaves to catch any shipping damage (not common but it happens sometimes). White glove delivery to your backyard is available upon request in some locations.

Custom cutouts are laser cut into the side panels of your fire pit. Because of this, they need to be fabricated before the firepit is welded together and cannot be added at a later time. You can spec a custom cutout on the firepit product page, customizer, or contact us directly. We will always send you a detailed drawing of your design before anything is built to ensure it’s exactly what you’re looking for.

The outside ring on the Cottager firepit can be used as a footrest. It gets warm, but generally not hot due to heat dissipation. Kick your feet up and relax!

Over the course of several seasons, it is normal to see a small amount of corrosion on your fire pit, primarily where the fire touches. Our fire pits are coated with a high-temp paint, but that can deteriorate over time. For best results, stay on top of maintenance with our signature touch-up paint, or opt to have your fire pit constructed from stainless steel If that’s not your style, no worries - everything is covered by our 10-year guarantee against rust-through and burn through.
